Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India will compete in three divisions — Indian, Recurve and Compound Division — at the J.R.D. Tata Sports Complex, AAI said. The competition concludes March 10.

“This is the first time that the Indian Round is being introduced in the championship. Indian Round is the cheapest way to start archery and the AAI is trying to ensure that the sport reaches more countries at an affordable cost. Archers who have the talent then can move on to Recurve and Compound Division,” it said in a statement.

“It is also the first occasion that the Compound Division is being held. Compound has been there in the World Championship for 20 years. In Asia, it started in 1995 and has grown in popularity. The Asian Archery Federation is trying to introduce it at the Asian Games.”

India is also fielding a junior team in the competition to prepare them for the upcoming Junior World Archery Championship in October and the Junior Asian Championship in 2009 besides, the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
