Before any government makes any policy decision or sets the nation on to a course for the future, it should take into account hopes and aspirations of the people.

Tearful prayers offered by Muslims for rains

Hyderabad: Faced with a severe crisis due to the failure of monsoon, the people from different religious faiths in Andhra Pradesh were offering special prayers to seek divine help to invoke the rains.

Thousands of Muslim men, women and children- some of them accompanied by their cattle- gathered at the sprawling Mir Alam Idgah in Hyderabad on Sunday and offered “Namaz-e-Istesqa” for the rains.


AP to name water supply project after Maulana Azad

Hyderabad: In first of its kind move, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to name a major water supply scheme in Hyderabad after the prominent freedom fighter and India’s first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.


The scheme, envisaged to bring 10 TMC ft water from river Godavari to Hyderabad city, will be called Maulana Abul Kalam Hyderabad Sujala Sravanthi scheme and it is estimated to cost Rs 3375 crore.

Yasin Malik arrested on way to Shopian

Srinagar : Separatist leader Yasin Malik was arrested by police Sunday while he was going towards Shopian town in south Kashmir, where two women were found raped and murdered May 30.

Malik, the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), was earlier Sunday released from house arrest in summer capital Srinagar, immediately after which he attempted to go to Shopian along with his supporters.

"Malik was taken into preventive custody at Awantipora in Pulwama district while he was going to Shopian town," a senior police officer said here.

One has heard that faith can move mountains, but currently one looks forward to see that it restores peace and justice in society. We have been hearing about various Inter Faith Dialogues from quite some time. One such high level dialogue took place in Mumbai in second week of June 2009. This was attended by top clergy from Hindu and Christian religions. It came to the understanding that there should be no violence against minorities, there should be no conversions and that religious organizations will pool together their resources for charity.

Three arrested for burning girl alive

Bhopal : Three of the four men accused of burning alive a girl who protested their harassment have been arrested, police in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, where the gruesome incident occurred, said Saturday.

Rukhsana, 18, sustained 80 percent burns when the four men - Rakesh Kori, Brajesh Kori, Siaram and Nisar Mohammad - barged into her house when she was alone, poured kerosene over her and set her ablaze. She died in hospital Saturday, Chhatarpur Superintendent of Police (City) Sameer Yadav told IANS.

Wimbledon: Sania out of women's doubles

London : Sania Mirza's run in Wimbledon women's doubles ended when she and Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) went down 2-6, 3-6 to Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva and Monica Niculescu of Romania in the second round here Saturday.

The 15th-seeded Indo-Taiwanese pair frittered away opportunities and could convert only one of their seven break points. They in return were broken four times in the 87-minute match.
