Lucknow: Jamat-e-Islam-e-Hind (JIH) today came out openly against the draconian proposals of The Enemy Property Amendment and Validation Ordinance 2010. JIH Uttar Pradesh President Syed Muhammed Ahmed spoke at length about the governments plan to occupy the properties belonging to Muslims, particularly, in Lucknow, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Mumbai etc apart from other parts of the country.

CBI court refers Amin's approver plea to high court

Gandhinagar : A designated CBI court in Ahmedabad Thursday referred a plea of former deputy superintendent of police N.K. Amin, an accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shoot-out case, seeking to turn approver, to the Gujarat High Court to decide its constitutional validity.

This followed after other co-accused challenged the jurisdiction of the designated court to accept such a plea filed under section 306 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Sohrabuddin case: CBI quizzes Gujarat cop for 9 hours

Gandhinagar : Police commissioner of Gujarat's Rajkot town Geetha Johri was quizzed for almost nine hours by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here Thursday in connection with the 2005 staged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

She arrived at the CBI office here around 10.30 a.m. and left around 7 p.m.

This is the second time that she is being questioned by the CBI, the first time being in March this year.

Haj committee election upheld by court

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court has upheld the election of the office-bearers of Haj committee which coordinates the visit of Indian Muslims to the annual pilgrimage to Makkah and Madina in West Asia.

The Haj committee is administered by the ministry of external affairs under a parliamentary act. The ministry holds annual elections to the committee.

No curbs on screening 'Lamhaa' on TV: Court

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Thursday refused to restrain Colors TV channel from screening Bollywood film "Lamhaa" based on Kashmir. A petition seeking the curbs was filed by two army officers.

The petitioners sought a ban on the screening of Rahul Dholakia-directed film on the channel Aug 29 alleging that it showed the security forces in poor light. They also sought withdrawal of the film from cinema halls.

The public interest litigation (PIL) was moved by Colonel Rajiv Mehrotra and Captain Rahul Soni.

Maudany sent to jail till Sep 7

Bangalore : People's Democratic Party head Abdul Nasir Maudany, an accused in the 2008 serial blasts in Bangalore, was Thursday sent to jail till Sep 7 by a magistrate here.

The 10-day police custody of Maudany ended Thursday and the police told the first additional chief metropolitan magistrate Venkatesh Hulagi that they have completed his interrogation in the case.

Pathans' family told to comply with court orders

The court said it will hear Pathans' plea only after they comply with a trial court's order to restore the possession of the property to the tenant, allegedly evicted forcibly May 7.

Rahman to unveil Games theme song Aug 28

New Delhi : After several delays, music maestro A.R. Rahman's theme song for the Commonwealth Games will finally be unveiled this Saturday.

"Oh yaaro, India bula liya" (Friends, we have called you to India) has been composed and sung by the double-Oscar award winner.

He will be performing the whole song at the first hearing Saturday, according to a statement by the Organising Committee of the Games.

The venue for the event has not been finalised yet.
