Iran hands n-security proposals to Russia, China

Tehran : Iran Friday said it has submitted a package of proposals on nuclear non-proliferation, other international security issues to Russian and Chinese foreign ministers.

"These countries have promised to closely study the package of proposals and to announce their opinion regarding our initiatives," a spokesman for the Iranian Supreme National Security Council said.

Bangladeshi court indicts 61 Islamists for militancy

Dhaka : An anti-terrorist court in the northern hinterland in Bangladesh has indicted a record number of 61 activists from the outlawed Jamiatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) for spreading Islamic militancy in the country, police sources said Friday.

Chief Magistrate Shamsul Huda also issued arrest warrants against 10 absconding accused who will face a formal trial on a specific charge of attacking a police patrol in August 2003.

Diplomat: Iran staunch supporter of Palestine

Beijing : Iran's Ambassador to China Javad Mansouri said Friday that Iran will remain supporter of Palestine under any condition.

"Palestine belongs to whole the world of Islam. Muslim nations defend the Palestinians' cause and the Islamic Republic of Iran too will remain supporter of Palestine under any condition," said Mansouri in an address to a group of people at Palestine Embassy in Beijing on the 60th anniversary of Palestine occupation.

Mansouri said Muslim nations should close ranks to foil plots of the world arrogance and Zionism.

ElBaradei to present Iran report in almost a week

Vienna : International Atomic Energy Agency's Chief Mohammed ElBaradei will present his Iran report probably next weekend or earlier the week following it.

An informed source told IRNA in Vienna on Friday that the IAEA Head's report may be ready and put at the disposal of the IAEA Board of Governors' members between May 23-27.

The diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the report is expected to be an ordinary one which would focus on latest developments, namely the alleged studies.

U.S. President arrives in Riyadh

Riyadh : President George W. Bush of the United States of America arrived in Riyadh today on a two-day visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Upon arrival at King Khalid International Airport, the U.S. President was received by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud who welcomed him and the accompanying delegation to the Kingdom.

Spokesman: Israel, U.S. see need of "tangible action" on Iran nukes

Jerusalem : The United States and Israel agreed on the need of "tangible action" to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, an Israeli government spokesman said on Friday.

"We both see the threat ... and we both understand that tangible action is required to prevent the Iranians from moving forward on a nuclear weapon," Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's spokesman Mark Regev was quoted by local daily Ha'aretz as saying.

Islamabad : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari discussed the overall political situation in the country and decided to keep the cabinet slots emptied by PML-N vacant.

In the meeting at the PM House on Thursday, Asif Ali Zardari said he was committed to promoting national reconciliation in the country and asked the Prime Minister not to accept resignations tendered by the PML (N) Ministers.

Zardari said he will speak to Nawaz Sharif and persuade him to withdraw resignations of PML (N) ministers in national interest.

Pakistan calls for action plan to make food affordable

United Nations : Pakistan has called for a concerted plan of action that must include emergency actions, including humanitarian aid, to enable severely stressed developing countries to provide affordable food to their peoples.

“It (the action plan) must also provide inputs to ensure larger food production in the near term, inter alia, to ensure supplies and moderate prices,” Ambassador Munir Akram told a high-level forum on sustainable development in New York on Thursday.
