New Delhi : Several bomb disposal squads and dog squads were rushed to the Red Fort Thursday evening after an unidentified caller called to say a bomb was planted outside the historic monument, Delhi Police said.

"An unidentified person called the Fire Control Room at around 5.45 p.m. claiming the presence of a bomb outside the Red Fort. The fire department immediately informed us and several teams have been pressed to the spot," Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

"We are taking all due precautions and are verifying the identity of the caller. No suspicious object has been recovered yet," Bhagat added.

Police were trying to evacuate the surrounding areas of the Red Fort in one of the most crowded areas of the capital.
