“We were not worried. There was no special prayer service because we know this is just a test of belief for his followers,” Rakesh Joshi, administrative officer of the centre, told IANS Wednesday.

A follower of Sathya Sai Baba for the past 40 years, Joshi, however, added that scores of people have been coming to the centre ever since news of his poor health spread .

“People have been coming and meditating on their own. We have a bhajan session every Sunday and last Sunday we had a lot of people. But we have not organised anything special,” he said.

“When you see Sathya Sai Baba healing people in front of you, you start believing, you start having faith. But you also have to understand that when god is in human form, he has to follow the process of the human body. Do you know any individual who has never fallen ill?” Joshi asked.

The condition of the 85-year-old spiritual guru, who was admitted to the super speciality hospital in Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh March 28, remains stable but critical, according to doctors treating him.

Even as the Sai International Centre remained serene and a meditation session was on Wednesday afternoon, the guard at the gate said: “Nothing has changed since we came to know that Sathya Sai Baba was not well. People are coming in like usual”.

“I have heard that even Shirdi Sai Baba had fallen seriously ill and his followers were very worried, but the bad phase passed. This will pass too,” he added.
