However, the ongoing developments in Shia PG College also found mention in the address by Imam, Asafi Masjid, Maulana Kalbe Jawwad during Bakrid prayers. “The college has been founded by our great grandfather and my ancestors. I have never staked claim on this ground
that the college should be handed over to me. I am only for a probe in the large scale bungling at the college,” said Jawwad. Jawwad also added that he was for a probe in every issue even if it related to him. Row over college has engulfed the old city into violence on November 13 leading to Jawwad’s arrest.

Elsewhere, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli led the prayers at Aishbagh Eidgah. During his sermon, Farangi Mahli appealed for unity among different sects of Muslims. “Those who are creating differences among different Muslims are enemies of Muslims. People should reject them and stand united,” he said. Special prayers for eradication of terrorism from the country, rebuilding of Babri Mosque and peace and prosperity in the nation were also held on the occasion.

At another major congregation at Tile Wali Masjid, Maulana Fazlur Rehman Waizi led the prayers. He urged the Muslims to remain united and prayed for peace in the country. Namaz was also offered in several other mosques across the city.
