Provocative ads inserted in Gujarati language dailies against CBI probe

By TCN News

Ahmedabad: Apparently fearing that CBI investigations into the Sohrabuddin-Tulsiram fake encounter cases might lead to arrest of some important BJP leaders, a little known organization Jan Adhikar Samiti inserted communally provocative advertisements in Saturday edition of the Gujarati language dailies across the state intended to influence the public opinion about the genuineness of the CBI probe.

Though the ad does not identify the persons connected with the organization, sources say that the samiti is being run by some politicians and advocates connected with a Hindu right organization.

Meanwhile, state Congress president Siddharth Patel has demanded a fair probe to identify those behind the ad and initiate stern action against them. He said that it was a very serious matter because they wanted to stoke communal fire again in the state which witnessed India’s worst communal riots in 2002.

The advertisement inserted in “public interest’’, specifically focuses on CBI investigation in Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.

However, the advertisement has strategically avoided the mention of fake encounter case of Tulsiram Prajapati, who was the lone eye witness of Sohrabuddin fake encounter. Prajapati, according to the latest revelation by Gujarat CID(crime), was shot dead by a team of Gujarat and Rajasthan police on the Gujarat-Rajasthan border on December 28, 2006.

Questioning the CBI probe, the ad sarcastically says that “Delhi Durbar’’(UPA government) is favouring the “terrorist’’ Sohrabuddin under pressure from its “vote-bank.’’(meaning Muslims), thus making an attempt to politicise and communalise the whole issue.

The ad says “why is there so much of hue and cry over killing of Sohrabuddin by police when Dawood Ibrahim conspires terror act in India from the Pakistani soil’’?

“While the terrorists are free, police personnel in Gujarat have been thrown behind bars’’, the ad says.
Commenting on it, state congress president Siddharth Patel said that it was a bid on the part of the BJP to provoke public sentiments against the CBI probe into the fake encounter cases, now closing in on certain BJP politicians.

He said that CBI was conducting probe on directions of the supreme court and not UPA government as being projected by national and state BJP leaders. As for arrests of police personnel, he said that out of 20 arrests made so far in Sohrabuddin and Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter cases, 19 had been arrested by the Gujarat CID(crime) itself and only one-Abhay Chudasama- by CBI. Chudasma and a Gujarat minister were reportedly, as per CBI investigations, involved in an extortion racket with Sohrabuddin. The latest investigations reveal that Sohrabuddin was eliminated as he allegedly did not share proportionately some of the booty he collected through extortion from marble lobby of Rajasthan.
