The attack took place in the Government Engineering College in Thrissur. SIO secretary K Sadiq was speaking when SFI activists reportedly raised slogans and began the attack. Stones were pelted from different parts of the campus. PM Salih was stamped down. Members of the Caravan Shafeeq Kodinhi, Shahid Ahmed Edappal and U Rashid Vatakara, and District Committee members Afsal Mathilakam, EM Amjad Ali Perumpilav, Amhar Chendrappinni and Anees Ovungal were injured. All the eight injured were taken to the District Hospital.

The SFI activists reportedly shouted that the SFI was in power in the college that was a red fort, and that no other organisation would be allowed to function there. The SIO had got the permission of the college principal to organize the programme.

There are also reports that activists including girls were attacked even after the police had reached the spot. SIO activists then blocked the road complaining the police had not taken the right action in the matter. They were arrested by the police. The police also took case against 14 SIO activists for blocking the traffic. The police reportedly harmed a man who was witnessing the programme. The man is known to have said that he had seen the SFI activists pelting stones at the SIO programme.

Meanwhile, the caravan’s programme in the Thrissur district came to an end yesterday by the public meeting in Kodungallore. SIO activists marched in protest against the SFI attack before the public meeting was inaugurated by SIO central committee member Mis’ab.

The Campus Front of India condemned the attack on the SIO Caravan by the SFI. The attack has revealed the ideological pauperism of the SFI, it said.
