SIO leaders meet union ministers on community issues

New Delhi: A high-level delegation of Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) yesterday met some union ministers seeking their support on various important issues of the Muslim community including minority character of Jamia Millia Islamia, increase in number of minority students in technical and professional institutes and preservation of neglected Muslim historical sites.

National Secretaries of SIO, Shahnawaz Ali Raihan and Muhammed Bilal, met Union Tourism Minister of State Sultan Ahmed in his office at Shastri Bhawan and discussed minority character of Jamia Millia Islamia. SIO leaders urged him to do needful to restore and preserve the neglected Muslim historical sites. They also requested him to give more opportunity to minority students in getting admission in institutions like Institutes of Hotel Management and Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management.

Later both SIO leaders met Union Information and Broadcasting Minister of State C.M. Jatua and demanded him to block porn sites.

The SIO delegation also spoke to officials of HRD Ministry on Jamia minority issue and submitted a letter seeking appointment with HRD Minister Kapil Sibal.

At the end, the delegation reached Congress headquarters and spoke with Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and veteran Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai on Jamia issue. They met former Union Minister Mani Shanker Iyer and gave him booklets on Islam and SIO.
