AMU intensifying efforts for Murshidabad, Malappuram campuses

Aligarh: Intensifying efforts for the establishment of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus in Murshidabad, West Bengal, AMU Vice Chancellor Professor P.K. Abdul Azis along with Mr. Moinul Hasan, Member of Parliament and AMU Court met Union Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and discussed the matter pertaining to the transfer of land for the centre.

Mr. Mukherjee assured them that the matter would be resolved within a few days and the amount of Rs. 25 crore granted in the last budget for Murshidabad and Malappuram campuses each will be transferred within a couple of days.

He also advised the AMU VC that centre should be functioning from the next educational session and building should be constructed in Murshidabad for this purpose.

On the other hand Mr. M.A. Baby, Kerala state Education Minister has informed the AMU that in the first phase, 156 acres of land for the campus will be transferred to AMU by the state government on 6th March 2010 at a public function in Perinthalmanna, Malappuram district of Kerala.

The Minister for Revenue, Mr. Rajendran and Minister for Minority Affairs, Mr. Palalu Mohammad Kutty, government of Kerala would also be attending the function.

AMU Registrar, Professor V.K. Abdul Jaleel will lead a delegation comprising senior functionaries of AMU to Perinthalmanna on 4th of March 2010 for verification of land records and handing over the land to AMU while VC Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, will attend the function on March 6, 2010.

Notably, Kerala government had promised AMU in September 2009 to allot about 400 acres land for special center in Malappuram. Of them 156 acers is going to be transferred while remaining one will be given after March 2010 with a thirty meter road connecting the new campus to national highway.
