Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said in the state assembly that the people involved in stone pelting that resulted in Irfan’s death at Chakla, Baramulla, Monday have been identified.

“They would be apprehended within two days,” he said.

Sagar said a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged in Baramulla police station, and investigations were on.

He said on the day of the incident, a Matador mini-bus going from Rafiabad to Baramulla was stopped by some miscreants at Chakla and passengers were told to get down. Soon after, some miscreants started pelting stones.

A woman named Kalsooma of Rawoocha-Rafiabad was travelling in the mini-bus with her baby. During the stone pelting, the infant fell down and died, he added.

He also said: “As the government is nearing to expose the stone-pelters, the leaders of a particular party have got unnerved. On the one hand, the leaders of this particular party in Srinagar are justifying stone pelting, and on the other hand they allege raising of counter-stone pelting squad.”

Without naming the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, who had alleged that the National Conference (NC) had raised a counter-stone pelting squad, he said: “This speaks of their frustration and political bankruptcy”.

Earlier, the PDP tried to disrupt the proceedings of the house during question hour and also staged a walkout when Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone disallowed a special discussion on human rights and suspended the question hour.
