Jail torture of terror accused: Azamgarh group seeks Prez’s help

By TCN News,

Azamgarh: Association For Welfare, Medical, Educational And Legal Assistance (AWMELA) yesterday approached President of India Pratibha Patil seeking her help to stop torture practices against terror accused in Jaipur jail. Azamgarh youth Mohammad Sarvar, lodged in Jaipur jail in connection with Jaipur serial blasts, is allegedly being tortured and kept in sub-human condition inside the Jaipur Central Jail.

AWMELA has demanded that “Mohammad Sarvar s/o Mohammad Hanif lodged in Central Jail, Jaipur, being constantly tortured, should be properly treated as per Jail Manual.”

In the petition to the President, AWMELA President Dr Javed Akhtar says that “in spite of repeated petitions to your good office, Jail authorities, Jaipur, has not ceased to stop intimidating tactics, action should be taken against them.”

Mohammad Sarvar, who in this hot season (especially for Jaipur) has been kept in an unventilated cell without electric fan, must be provided facilities as per Law, and “inhuman treatment meted out to jail inmate Mohammad Sarvar must stop forthwith,” the Azamgarh-based group of intellectuals demanded.
