Bhopal: Popular Front of India has decided to extend help to the victims of floods in Bihar.
A Press release issued by general secretary E. M. Abdurahman on Sunday from Bangalore said the volunteers of Popular Front will collect money and clothes from public all over Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu within a week. The National Executive Committee members of Popular Front Moideenkutty Faizy and Yasir Hassan are now on a visit to the effected northern districts of Bihar to assess the situation.
More than 100 people died and another 2.5 million were made homeless in the Bihar floods. The floods affected nearly 1,600 villages in 15 northern and central Bihar districts. The relief camps face an epidemic outbreak if help failed to reach them quickly. According to government figures, some 467,000 marooned people had been evacuated and over 150,000 were sheltered in 172 relief camps. An estimated 400,000 people still need to be rescued.
The Central Secretariat of Popular Front appealed all citizens to cooperate with this noble humanitarian venture. (pervezbari@eth.net)
