Never felt discrimination as a Muslim, says Naseeruddin Shah

New Delhi : Acclaimed actor Naseeruddin Shah Wednesday said he did not agree with Shabana Azmi's view that Muslims were discriminated against in India and added that he had never faced any such problem.
"I have never felt any discrimination. I have never been refused housing in Bombay. I have lived there in all kinds of conditions from a paying guest, sharing with six people to having two apartments of my own. I have never had these problems. I don't deny that these problems exist, but I don't think that Muslims are exclusively the victims," Shah said.
"The less we nurse this persecution thing, the better it will be," Shah told NDTV news channel on its programme "India 60 Minutes".
He added: "I think that when the occasion arises, anyone is discriminated against. I can cite instances when Hindus have been discriminated against; forget about Christians, Sikhs, Parsis and so on."
Shabana last week told another news channel that Muslims were often treated as second-class citizens. She said: "I cannot get a house in Mumbai. I wanted to buy a flat in Mumbai and it wasn't given to me because I was a Muslim, and I read the same about Saif (Ali Khan)."
"Now, I mean, if Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi cannot get a flat in Mumbai because they are Muslims, then what are we talking about?" said Azmi.

Naseeruddin Shah,Is he a Muslim,just because of his Muslim Name
Is Naseeruddin Shah a Muslim ?
I am not sure about it.If he is really a Muslim, does he know what are the acts which throws a man out of the Islamic fold immediately ? Will I a practicing Muslim with no beard and no Kurta Pyjama, have to marry a Hindu woman so that I may be known as a Secular Muslim in India ?
I can have a debate with Mr Naseeruddin Shah on this.
If he has a belly full, does that mean every muslim has
enough food to eat.Mr.Naseeruddin Shah is far from reality?
Now again he should come down to earth to know the reality?
Nasiruddin Shahs VS Shabana Azmis
Personally being a practising Bangladeshi Muslim I love & respect Indians irrespective of their belief. During my youth I was a fan of Nasiruddin Shah for his realistic role in films specially after seeing 'End of Night' directed by Shyam Benegal. Perhaps Mr. Shah has seen end of his night but failed to understand plights of those millions being oppressed & suppressed by state machinery in India claimed to be a secular state. Many times I have visited India in different occassions & incidentally to see the pains of Muslims because of visible discrimination against them almost in all sectors. Only lucky few like Mr. Shah is enjoying the fruits of Indian secularism. Thanks to Ms. Azmi for her disillusionment lately. I will invite Mr. Shah to pay a visit to our neibouring state of West Bengal (Bangla)& see how the Muslims (more than 25% of West Bengal population are Muslims) are living there. I do not know much about Mumbai or all other parts of India. Let him visit Bangladesh after his gaining experience in West Bengal. He will find the difference.
There are always people like Mr. Shah in every society who are more responsible for criminal negligence of minority community by a state administration for they are given wrong information by these agents or cronies. Let the long night of sufferings of Indian Muslims & other minority community be over Mr. Shah. Pls do not confuse the saner elemetnts of ruling community.

EVEN I CAN SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEM REGARDIN RELIGION IN INDIA, ONLY PROBLEM IS U THE PEOPLE THINKING ALWAYS ABOUT YOU ONLY NOT ABOUT OTHERS IN OUR SOCIETY. THATS THE PROBLEM. U CAN CHECK EVERY PROBLEM IN AL OVER WORLD RELATING TO YOUR COMMUNITY.
SO U CAN JUDGE & DECIDE WHER THE PROBLM & HOW 2 OVERCOME IT.

A question
I would like to ask Mr.Shah, how much does he feel that he is a Muslim?
If anybody says that Muslims are not discriminated against in India, he is living in a fool's paradise. But I agree that this problem has to be approached constructively. There are many Hindu brethren who are fighting out the Hindu communalism directed against the Muslims. Let us not make light of their efforts by saying that this problem does not exist.
