'Is blood transfusion permitted during Ramadan': Query on Ramadan helpline
By IANS,
Lucknow : Can eye-drops be used during the holy month of Ramadan? Does Allah permit application of pain-balm on the forehead during the holy fast? Is blood transfusion permitted during Ramadan?
Such and many more questions have flooded the helplines opened here by clerics to answer the questions of devout Muslims during Ramadan.
"The queries are being asked through telephones and e-mails," Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Maheli, Naib Imam of Eidgah Aishbagh, told IANS Wednesday.
"Several people Tuesday asked us whether blood samples can be given for medical tests during the fasting month of Ramadan," he added.
Separate helplines by Sunni and Shia clerics are operating here.
The numbers are - 09415023970 (Sunni) and 09335131703 (Shia). The Sunni clerics can also be contacted at e-mail .
Although the helplines are open round-the-clock, maximum number of queries come in between 1:30 p.m. to 3:50 p.m., said Maheli.

Restrictions during Ramadan
All medical treatments are fully permissible during Ramadan. These include blood transfusions, pain balms and eyedrops. Islam is a religion of common sense and rationality. Excessive punctiliousness is not Islamic.
