New Indian Army medical college to begin MBBS course

New Delhi : A newly established Army College of Medical Sciences (ACMS) here is to commence its first MBBS course later this year, it was announced Tuesday.
Affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, the 100-seat ACMS has been established under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES).
This college is meant for children of army personnel, including Short Service Commission officers, who have served at least for 10 years. Children of officers from the Army Medical Corps and the Army Dental Corps currently serving in the Indian Air Force or the Indian Navy and who have served the army for 10 years will also be eligible to apply, a defence ministry statement said.
Similarly children of Military Nursing Services and Army Postal Service personnel who have served in the army for 10 years are also eligible, the statement.
Admissions will be based on a common entrance test to be conducted by the university. ACMS will call the short-listed candidates in July for counselling.
After completing the course, the students will have to join as short service commission officers in the Army Medical Corps.

The AWES is paying a major subsidy with the fee structure too. And u want the army to do that for peeps like you who dont even know what nationhood means. They recieved appreciation for opening the college against all odds from very eminent people. And u there sittin on ur a*s think that u have the right to judge the indian army? Why? Coz u aint got a seat in that college?
Its not for you. wasnt meant for you. We have the right to open our own higher educations centers coz we require em. we have the resources and we shall use them. Dont expect us to show u our generosity as far as this is concerned just for ur lame cause of "nationhood"
and how its "unconstitutional" which is something u probably dont understand since you cant appreciate what the forces have done for the officers who serve. its for those who stand at the gates to keep ur sorry a*s from gettin busted by terrorists and invaders. its for their children as a reward or compensation for the sufferings they have to bear with. thanks for your point of view. I thought Army instills more civility. Anyway I have more closely related acquaintances in Army than many,& lot of respect for army. I have qualified from National & International Institutions which can be dream for any body whether in Army or not. Cutting short for I don't want to sound personal & uncivilized like you.
The college in question is affiliated to a university whose statute & bond of affiliation it is violating by restricting entry to Army wards. So it can be dis-affiliated anytime if somebody asks a legal view & than all the students will suffer the fate like students from poor private colleges unless they restrict their substandard qualification to healing within the Army.
Dont forget Army is paid for by the public / tax p[ayers money which is also responsible for the running of Army Hospitals etc.
People of my caliber impart education/ skills to top most brains in the world of their own choosing, they don't look for reservations or affirmative action.

The college is violating the statute of the affiliating university, its commitment to the university hence it is unconstitutional & will remain so. Just because we have handed you guns & a job to look after us doesn't make you what you fell to be.

Look, u mayb an excellent doctor. Or even a fantastic surgeon who has saved countless lives. But that does not give you the right to judge an establishment by what they do on the basis of incomplete knowledge. not that i really give two hoots as to what you think, i just prefer removing any idiotic misconceptions .

That was one helluva good argument for the ACMS. Thank god, somebody got up and fought for the army guys and their kids. It is easy sitting in comfy places and accusing army of doing unconstitutional things. little realizing what the army men, their wives and children go through. Do you guys know, these kids are not domiciled in any State? Why? because their parents never stayed in one state for more than 2-3 years at a time!! Anyway, the college is finally opening this year, let us just say cheers and thank you god.

I personally feel there is nothing wrong about coming up with an establishment exclusively for the army kids..in fact , it has been long overdue.for one, it is useless to talk about 'merit' in our country..50% of seats in higher professional colleges booked away..now that calls for a party.
Ethically, the above argument is correct to an extent..atleast having your kids nicely settled takes one load off your shoulders..god knows our soldiers need that comfort.
also, we are talking about a hundred seats here, seats for a national organization..why don't colleges like the cmcs(ludhiana and vellore) come under attack..for having 'nominations' for christian candidates..at acms , we're atleast talking secular..
the fact is,that for such an issue, no one has the last word..all we have to remember is that everyone has the right to an opinion..and though we may not agree with them..we are atleast bound by courtesy to hear them out.

i'm rather inclined to take upecmustang's p.o.v here. he's right. the army does deserve a lot more than its getting these days. especially after the serious debacle with the sixth pay comission.

Army vs civilians
By reading above great thought about army i still feel someone care about us.
I strongly believe that there should be more colleges like ACMS because (for civilians only) if you personally view the ground realities from our point of view, you will find they they are much more different you thought to be. you people are settled at one place, in one city, can easily plan carrier for your children but we have to move from one place to another, or sometimes in rural areas because of postings,that hinders the studies of our children but who cares at last we are the sufferer!! and you people(civilians) can easily get best coaching and best institutes.It's not because you are more intelligent,or u eat something different, it is due to the facilities you are getting because of ARMY. you are safe because of ARMY. So i think its not a issue AT ALL to have a debate because u can't compare yourself with us. i read the thoughts of MR DOC. above,sir with all respects and regards i must say if you want that you people can avail all the facilities of ARMY plz join ARMY! There is no other option for you and all these debates.
Now i think you all have a better idea about ARMY its importance and its Position about reading all the above articles posted by some intellectual persons! so please let us calm and cool and don't force us to fire our guns against you(civilians).

At one point of time i respect him as a father coz he sorta did it coz his son was refused admission since he's not from the army. But trying to quash the admission procedure just coz your son didnt make it there is a bit harsh innit?
