Guj ATS arrests 2 Hindu youths with GPS device, maps of Saurashtra

Mumbai: The Jamnagar court in Gujarat on December 13 gave into ATS remand the two youths caught with a global positioning system (GPS) device and maps of Saurashtra region and doing some suspicious activities in the city on December 6.

After five days of grilling Mahesh Parab and Anil Jagtap were formally arrested on December 12 and handed over to the Gujarat ATS. ATS officer GL Singhal said: ‘Both came here from Khambalia by taxi this month. The taxi is registered in Mumbai RTO. Hence the local police felt doubt and the taxi was stopped. When asked about the purpose of their visit to Jamnagar they could not give satisfactory answer. The duo claimed that they were the employees of a software company in Mumbai and that they had gone there to survey their subscribers. Therefore, the police took them in custody and seized the taxi.’

Singhal added that before being handed over to ATS they were put in police custody for five days. The ATS arrested them formally on December 12 accusing them of going against the government secrecy law. It produced them before the court of judge A A Nanawati in Jamnagar on December 13 and asked for their remand.

According to media reports the police have recovered from them very culpable governmental documents besides video clips, one GPS (Global Positioning System), laptop and the maps of different areas in Swarashtra.

According to Times of India, Mahesh and Anil have claimed to be employees of Biond Software Ltd, a Dombivali-based software company in Mumbai. They were caught from Khambhalia on Saturday night as they were travelling in a car fitted with a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking device. They also had some area topography maps and a laptop containing distance charts, digital maps of Guajrat coastal line and even Wagah border.

The police sources told that they were making video clips of the armies doing parade at sensitive places of the city including Wagah Border from where Pakistani border is very close. Reportedly they were also taking video graphs of airports and busy railway stations. It is reported that the video clips recovered from them have the films of the bus from India to Lahore. The ATS sources told that the digital camera recovered from them has the photos of the Jamnagar airport and a building adjoining to it. According to ATS they had tried to capture the photos of the fighter planes of Indian Air Force standing at Air Base of Jamnagar airport.

The police suspect whether their plan was to carry out any destructive activity on a large scale. It is investigating into their purpose behind taking the pictures of the prohibited places.
