Varanasi : The family of late shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan on Thursday boycotted the U.P. assembly polls due to uncaring attitude of the central and state governments towards keeping their promises for providing financial help to the maestro's family.
The governments have made a lot of promises like financial assistance, setting up cultural academy and funds for construction of the Ustad's mausoleum but none of them is fulfilled even eight months after the death of Ustad , said Nayyar Hussain, the son of Bharat Ratna Awardee.
Hussain said that all 65 voters of the great shehnai maestro's family have decided to protest against the lack of concern of the central and state governments towards keeping their promises.
He also stated that apart from Ustad's family, more than 2400 voters also joined hands in this protest and decided to boycott theelections.
He demanded the authorities to provide financial assistance, including petrol pump because the family is living in very pathetic condition and urgently needs financial suuport to manage food for themselves.
He appealed the governments to establish a cultural academy in the name of late shehnai maestro and issue funds for construction of mosoleum.
