Shravasti attack: UP will not make commissioner’s report public

Lucknow: The home secretary of the UP government have refused to make public the commissioner’s report on attack and raping of Muslim women in Shravasti (Shrawasti).
Commissioer Devipatan was assigned by the UP government to take statements from the victims and inquire into the circumstances of this heinous crime committed a mob originating from neighbouring upper caste Hindu village.
A delegation of women human rights activist recently met the home secretary in Lucknow. Home secretary Javeed Ahmed said that the report cannot be made public but promised better protection and compensation for the victims.
Human rights organisations are now planning to file RTI to make the report public.
Home secretary also refused to change the FIR to make it legally strong with adding appropriation sections of IPC related to sexual assault, rape and robbery.
A Muslim majority village Dhanni Deeh in Shravasti district was attacked by a mob of the neighboring Brahmin village on 10th of July beating people, raping women and parading them naked and then they robbed and destroyed their properties.
This is a first major attack on Muslims after Mayawati came to power recently. A minister of UP government has termed this case as a ‘small incident’.
